Community Education and Empowerment

The back bone of any economy is education. The leaders of tomorrow are children today. Their education is crucial.  However, due to the current armed conflict in the Cameroon Anglophone regions, some children and youth have not been able to attend school for the past FIVE YEARS AND COUNTING!

That is why the COEDEM decided to create the remedial classes program for children who because of the crisis have stayed out of school and are facing difficulties to read and spell.  Over 25 children participated in this summer's program. MANY are still in need of same assistance. Note should be taken that this activity is ongoing and will be a continuous process until all the children that the organization identified and registered who need such assistance are attended to. The few kids that were privileged to start the pilot phase can now read and write letters of the Alphabet. Others can associate sounds and also syllabify words for easier reading and spelling.

Challenges

The challenges faced are numerous and range from lack of materials for both the kids and the teachers, lack of finances to motivate the teachers, lack of finances for purchase motivational rewards for the children (since they are already loosing the spirit to learn and need to be cajoled and motivated with creative rewards).
