Gender inequality has been preached for years by the civil society, national and international communities and still has to yield the necessary fruits in local communities, for meaningful development to take place especially in developing countries like Cameroon.
In this light, COEDEM has come to add her voice to the numerous organizations/institutions and governments to preach and raise awareness on the importance of gender equality to community development. In this light, we organized a community peace educative talk with goal to build in community members the spirit of social cohesion and gender equality that will pave the way for the organization to teach, sensitize and build better understanding in the communities about the need and importance of community development. The attendees were also educated on Gender Based Violence consequences.
The participants especially the men, expressed happiness and satisfaction and promised to do all to assist the empower the women to generate income for the family, give more attention to the education of the girl child and above all give the women to participate in decision making so that development of their communities can be realized faster and better.
In attendance were the following groups:
- Know your Neighbor Community Group.
- Musang CWF members
Continous education and sensitization of the rural population on the need and importance of gender equality will actually speed up community development for it will raise the level of income in the various families, increase the number of educated girl children, bring up more ideas for the development of the community since the voices of women will be heard in decision making both in cultural, socio-economic and political matters.
We intend to reach out to as many communities as possible if the means will permit.
